Mr. Haines, GROHE is planning further growth in the Asian market and to acquire a major stake in Joyou. Why are you undertaking this step right now?

Joyou is one of our longstanding and highly valued business partners. Our cooperation with Joyou has proven to be very fruitful for both sides in recent years. Both companies will benefit from each other’s respective strengths in the markets, thereby accelerating growth opportunities. GROHE will get easier access to Joyou’s vast customer base and a rapidly growing, more brand- savvy middle class in China. Joyou on the other hand will benefit from GROHE’s leading know-how in quality, technology and design to improve competitiveness in China and internationally.

Where do you see the special benefit for GROHE as an anchor shareholder in Joyou?

In Joyou, we are gaining a strong partner in the Asia-Pacific region ␣ the market leader in China with a tightly-knit distribution network and vast customer base. This gives us even broader access to the Chinese sanitary ware market which boasts excellent rates of growth. I am convinced that we will still pick up a lot of speed together with our GROHE China team on the Chinese market. Both Joyou and GROHE can benefit in their respective markets by pooling their strengths. This way, we create a win-win situation for both companies, their employees and customers.

Who will lead Joyou?

We are very pleased to have the existing Chinese management team of Joyou on board. The current CEO, founder and largest shareholder of Joyou, Mr. JiansheCai, will remain CEO of Joyou. In Mr. JiansheCai we have a seasoned expert with top connections in China. I personally find JiansheCai’s expertise and business acumen extremely impressive.

What implications will the transaction have for Joyou’s and GROHE’s production and brands?

Both brands will remain clearly delineated: Joyou remains the superior brand for the domestic mass market in China while GROHE continues to be the international premium brand. We want both brands to remain independent and retain their individual brand identities ␣ not least because our target groups are so very different. Grohe will continue to produce GROHE products, and Joyou will continue to produce Joyou products.

For us, it is particularly important that both companies ␣ and hence also their shareholders and employees ␣ benefit in equal measure. Together we will further expand our market position in the Asia-Pacific market.
